Dry January is Over!

February Food Events & Our Food Truck

Okay, we’ve made it through January and we’re ready for some cocktails! Did anyone get through January fully dry? We have to admit, ours was damp, but we feel much better for it!

We’ve been in a bit of a creative rut on social media, but took the time we needed and are ready to come back with some fresh ideas this year!

We launched a new series, where we take someone who follows our account or subscribes to the newsletter out to lunch! If you’re interested, send us an email to [email protected] stating where you’d want to go and why.

Did you complete dry January?

It all started when we met on a plane ✈️ … and then opened a food truck 🚛

We want you to get to know us better, so here goes…

We met on a RyanAir flight back in 2012 and lived in England together for 6 years, 4 of which we ran our very own chicken wing food truck!

In 2019 we moved to the border of Jackson Heights & Elmhurst, Queens (where my grandpa grew up) before making the move over to Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2023.

In the food truck days we would travel all over England, going to events & festivals selling our wings, fried chicken and other American staples. Craving some blue cheese fries right now!

Si grew up in hospitality with his Dad running a hotel and I actually have a degree in restaurant administration & event management. So that’s where our backgrounds stem from!

Between us, we worked in a number of restaurants, bars and hotels before making the jump to the media side of things.

Our pop-up set up for ‘Lola’s Wings’

See how we did as guests on the SYWGF Podcast!

We chat about our story and share some thought on the influencer space as well as a few laughs with Chef Brian Tsao + Frenchy.

Bite of the Month

Each month we have a special highlight, whether it’s a restaurant, chef or some behind-the-scenes drops.

OKONOMI KAPPO COUNTER

The chef’s counter tasting menu in the back of Okonomi Market was one of our most memorable dinners this month. The 6 seat restaurant serves 7 courses and has a nice balance of being high quality food with a more casual atmosphere, plus it’s no corkage BYOB which helps with the budget!

The courses range from delicate scallops with citrus to tempura tilefish, plus there’s a divine yuzu tart with toasted rice ice cream to finish.

We loved how the chefs talk you through the menu, as most places will, but they also chat to you throughout the dinner, so it doesn’t feel like some stuffy tasting menu or omakase. We went for date night and had an excellent time, one we’ll certainly be going back to.

Okonomi Kappo Counter is located in Williamsburg and opens Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, serving a 7 course menu for $75 + tax / tip.
